Boulevards were nice during the beginning of the 20th century, however they have outlived their usefulness. With the greatly increased auto/truck/bus traffic and the expanding bicycle traffic all fighting for space on the streets - it doesn't make sense to shrink the useable street area to plant trees and grass, not to mention the cost of planting and maintaining such items.
