What would be the benefit if you could ride your bicycle as a means of transportation anywhere in Omaha?

The reason most people don't get around to physical fitness and taking care of their bodies is a matter of time and convenience. What if you could do both at the same time? Currently there are relatively few commutable bike paths in Omaha, and though side streets are an option for some, navigating them can be prohibitive for beginners and frightening for motorists.

What if there was an East to West route for cyclists that ran through the heart of town, coupled with several shorter North-South paths? That would be a basic beginning to fostering a real cycling community.

Once routes are in place, more people could be encouraged to bike for practical purposes like to work or to the store simply by spreading awareness of the benefits.
